What You Need To Know About Keeping Your Horse At Home

What You Need To Know About Keeping Your Horse At Home

Just about every horse owner has once dreamily contemplated the idea of looking out their bedroom or kitchen window to see their beloved equine friend happily grazing away.

The idea of having your horse at home just steps from your front door, is undoubtedly an extremely appealing idea.

While the idea is tempting, the reality is that there are a few different things to consider before you bring your horse home.

What You Need To Know About Keeping Your Horse At Home

Constant Horse Care

When we trust in a boarding facility to care for our horses, there is always at least one person on staff at all times to ensure the safety and comfort of the horses.

This means that there is always someone checking water levels, tossing the horses a flake or two of hay whenever needed, and ensuring that the horses are fed at least two times each day.

It also means that there is always someone in the stable to keep an eye on things and be present in the case of an emergency.

Unless you plan on hiring someone to carry out these duties on your property, it is important to keep in mind that bringing your horses to live at home essentially means that you will be the sole individual responsible for all of these tasks.

Pasture And Manure Management

Keeping your horses at home also means that you will now have to oversee the management of the pastures or paddocks.

Horses produce a lot of waste on a daily basis, and it can add up quickly.

Explore your options for disposing of the manure, whether it be dropping it off at the dump, selling it outside your home, giving it to local farmers, or even local tree or flower nurseries.

Paddock Blade Australia is here to help you manage your pasture.

Our towable cleaning device makes it simple and easy to thoroughly clean your pasture of all manure in just a fraction of the time it would normally take.

In Case Of Emergency

When we board our horses, we not only have access to staff who ensure the safety of our horses, but we also become part of a close-knit community of individuals who have varying levels of experience that can help immeasurably in the case of an emergency.

When you bring your horse home to live with you on your property, it is important to be sure that you feel confident in your ability to help your horse in the case of emergency, whether it be something as minor as a scrape acquired in the pasture, or something serious like a bad case of colic.

Make sure that you have a direct line of communication with your veterinarian, so that in the case of emergency, you will be able to immediately contact them to have them come out and take a look at your horse.

It is also generally a good idea to make sure that your truck and trailer are always ready to go at all times, or to ensure that you would be able to have a friend bring a trailer for you when you may need it.

Bringing your horse home to live with you on your property at home can prove to be extremely rewarding, and for many horse owners, it is often the ultimate goal that many work towards achieving.

With the proper planning and preparation on your part, you will be able to enjoy keeping your horses at home.

Wonderful! This useful piece of equipment has made it so much easier for our RDA centre! Easy to use, sturdy and strong and any one of our volunteers can use it. Thank you Paddock Blade Australia for supporting Riding Develops Ability. Our paddocks have never looked better and our 9 ponies are happy

Monica Kennedy - RDA Myrtleford

My wife suggested I buy a paddock blade and I was a little sceptical. We went ahead and ordered one. Great sales staff. It has since done a fantastic job clearing my paddocks of horse and cow poo. It is strong, well designed and really functional. Congrats Paddock Blade great product.

Allan Geraldene - Narrawong, Victoria

Absolutely love this product! Works perfectly, great pick up and does a fabulous job tidying the paddocks from our horse, cow and sheep. Tough and reliable and the perfect size too. Would not hesitate to recommend this to others.

Could not be more impressed with the paddock blade. It is so quick and easy to use. Not only cleaning poo but clearing sticks and rocks. Worked well on flat and hilly paddocks with high grass. Love love love my blade.

I bought one last week and I’m amazed at how well it works even on my bumpy and undulating paddocks. Huge time and effort saver.
Fantastic customer service, Jake was really easy to deal with and it’s nice to support a local business.

Lilja Viggosdottir - Healsville, Victoria

Great addition to our farm equipment. The paddock blade is easy to use and attaches to virtually any vehicle. We have used it at the back of our lawn tractor and our bigger 45 hp tractor and it did great on both.

Andrew Jones, Gidgegannup, Western Australia

My paddock blade was delivered on my birthday. Best present ever. It is brilliant. So easy to use. We have rocks in some of our paddocks and it’s picks them up as well. Fantastic design, easy to hook up to our Polaris, easy to empty. Our dogs love it as well! Highly recommended.

Catherine Way - Richmond, Tasmania

From ordering to delivery to performance I can’t fault this product or service. We live in a very remote location and the paddock blade arrived exactly as promised. We have plenty of horses on the station and the paddocks are now spick and span. Works in longer grass, uneven ground and is extremely easy to use. I tow it with a side x side easy to empty. Love it, get one you won’t regret it.

Tania Guaran - Hunter Valley, New South Wales
